Description

Thyme linalool essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the flowering tops of the botanical species Thymus zygis L. and Thymus vulgaris L. chemotype linalol, belonging to the Lamiáceae family.

It is located in North Africa (Algeria, Tunisia) and in Mediterranean Europe.

Thyme is an evergreen, woody shrub with aromatic foliage that can reach up to 30 cm in height. The leaves of this specimen are small, opposite and lanceolate. The flowers appear from mid-spring until well into the summer season and appear in terminal racemes, which are usually violet or purple, although they can also be white. They have recognized therapeutic values ​​and are widely used as a condiment in Mediterranean cuisine.

Thyme is extremely easy to grow. It needs sun, grows well in all types of soils and is quite resistant to drought. The leaves are collected at any time of year to consume fresh. To dry, the flowery ends are collected, separating the leaves and flowers from the stems, when they are dry.

Thymus zygus L. is produced in the months of June and July.

Other components that are present in a lesser proportion, but with significant values ​​are myrcene, gamma terpinene, trans-4-thuyanol, terpinen-4-ol. Other components are alpha-pinene, alpha-terpinene, limonene, p-cymene, terpinolene, beta-caryophyllene, and alpha-terpineol.
