Description

Cypress essential oil is obtained from the needle-bearing tree of coniferous and decidous regions. It comes from the Cupressaceae family. The cypress tree is an evergreen, with small, rounded and woody cones. It has scalelike leaves and tiny flowers. of this tree. Defining features of this tree are its upright and tall form. These tress can grow to exceptional heights of 60 to 80 feet tall. The foliage of the cypress tree is dark green and scale like. The tree also produces cones that are 1.5 inches across. These cones are woody and scaly and sually take two years mature.

Cypress oil is obtained by steam distillation for hours from the leaves and branches of the Cupresus sempervirens of the Cupressaceae family, obtaining a mobile liquid oil, yellowish in color and an odor ranging between turpentine and oil of Juniper, with a yield between 0.5 and 1%. Historically, its distillation has been carried out in France and Spain, although at present the largest part of the product marketed by the firms comes from Spain and Morocco.

Components

The three main chemical components of cypress essential oil are α-pinene, carene, and limonene. Both limonene and α-pinene are part of the monoterpene group and have strong uplifting characteristics. Α-Pinene is also known as a chemical with powerful renewing properties.
