CISTUS ESSENTIAL OIL

Description

Cistus essential oil is obtained through steam distillation of the leaves and branches of Cistus Labdaniferus L., a plant from the Cistaceae family, which grows in the Mediterranean basin. However, its production has been limited to Spain, where it grows spontaneously in large areas, mainly in the center and south of the Peninsula (Ciudad Real, Guadalajara, Huelva).

It is a plant that grows between 1 and 2 meters in height and produces a white-violet flower between May and June, which fades in a few days. This marks the beginning of its harvest for obtaining the products derived from it. However, harvesting must primarily occur during the hottest period, when the branches and leaves exude a sticky, strongly scented resin.

The distillation of Cistus Labdaniferus L. takes place between June and September.

Benefits

  • Treats Wounds

One of the most common uses of cistus oil throughout history has been to treat wounds and prevent infections. The combination of its powerful antiseptic and antimicrobial properties help to clear the wound of any harmful microbes, as well as prevent it from being infected by any other harmful pathogens. It has shown abilities to fight against Staph, Candida, and E.Coli. It is also known for its ability to slow the bleeding from a fresh wound.
